Privacy Policy

The Step Up video project website is designed to be simple and accessible for young people and professionals working with young people to use. However, we are very serious about looking after any personal information you submit to us. This policy sets out what we will and won't do with personal information you submit to us.

As a responsible charity with nearly 15 years experience campaigning with children, Living Streets is particularly careful about what information we collect, and how we use that information.

We will never share individual data with other organisations, unless compelled to by law. We are registered as a data controller with the Information Commissioner's Office.

What do we collect data for?

We will collect information through this website:

  1. To ensure parental permission has been given to use footage of children and young people.
  2. For answering individual queries put to us by users of the website.
  3. For consulting about the future of the walk to school campaign.
  4. For informing people as the campaign develops.

How will we use this data?

For contacting competition winners

We will always contact young people through their school or youth organisation.

For answering queries put to us by users of the website.

If we are contacted through the website, we will endeavour to answer your query. In this case we will not add you to any of our contact lists (unless you ask us to). We may keep a record of the question.

Case 3 and Case 4: for keeping in touch with you as we develop the campaign.

From time to time we may send you information about the video project, if you are registered to use the website. If at any time you no longer wish to receive these emails, we will remove you from our mailing list.

Cookies and Beacons

Our website may make use of cookies and beacons. Cookies are small text files stored on your machine, and beacons are small transparent image files. Neither contains any personal information, and we only use them to gather general information about how many people have visited the website, and which pages they have visited. You can read more about cookies and beacons at http://www.allaboutcookies.org/

Note For Parents and Teachers

The internet is a very exciting place for students, but there are also risks. There are a number of great websites to help educate you and your children about the internet, cyber bullying and safe web surfing. Our favourite is http://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/ which has relevant spaces for different age groups, as well as pages for teachers, and parents. It is developed by the CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection) centre in conjunction with young people.

Although we are asking students to make videos which are put on this website, we control everything posted here. This means all the content on this website has been checked by our moderators and we consider it suitable for our site. If you disagree, please let us know at stepupvideo@livingstreets.org.uk, so we can review our decision.
